About Martha Serpas

Ms. Serpas grew up in Galliano, Louisiana and received her B.A. in English and creative writing from LSU. She also holds a M.A. from New York University and a M.Div from Yale Divinity School. Her Ph.D. is from the University of Houston. For many years as an educational consultant and as a poet-in-residence, she facilitated the teaching of writing to children in New York City classrooms. She has taught recently at Yale Divinity School and the University of Tampa, where she served as poetry editor of Tampa Review. She teaches in the Creative Writing Program at the University of Houston. She generously agreed to participate in this website when it was just an inkling and the Louisiana Poetry Project is indebted to her for her support.
