Autumn in Southern Louisiana

for JB

Crepe myrtle leaves
shift. Golden,
late afternoon sun sweeps
away its last few
beads onto leaves,
fashions them into
lemon,
amber,
bronze.
Autumn is subtle and sweet here.
It is cold, cold.
Windy. The window frames
shimmering, swaying leaves against white sky.
Impressionist painting.
Fleeting moment.
Us.
